Backyard burning will be allowed in the City of Winston in October and November this year.
Information from City staff said in April the Winston City Council voted to extend backyard burning by adding April and October to the already allowed months of May and November, in an effort to clean up from the February winter storm. The council will re-evaluate the change in May of 2020.
Residents should remember that:
*Only yard material can be burned
*Those who burn anything else can and will be subject to fines
*Burning can only be done during daytime hours
*Fires should never be left unattended
*People should have the means required to extinguish fires close by in case they get out of control.
