CELEBRATE MUSEUM DAY ON SATURDAY

September 20, 2019 3:35 a.m.
The Douglas County Museum will celebrate the 14th annual National Museum Day by offering free admission to all patrons on Saturday.
Museum Day nationally is organized by Smithsonian Magazine, to celebrate cultural institutions and museum-goers across the country, according to the Douglas County Museum release. It encourages museums, galleries, and historic sites to allow free entry, just as the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C. based facilities do year-round. More than 1,600 museums nationwide will be opening their doors for free on Saturday, in honor of the annual celebration.
For more than 50 years, the Douglas County Museum has been collecting, preserving and exhibiting natural and cultural history items. The museum is next to the Douglas County Fairgrounds off Interstate Five at exit 123. Its open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition, the Lavola Backen Research Library is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Normal museum admission is $8 for adults, $5 for those over age 55 or in the military, and $2 for children ages 5-17.
