ROSEBURG TO ISSUE BURN PERMITS STARTING OCTOBER 1ST

September 19, 2019 3:45 a.m.
The City of Roseburg Fire Department will begin issuing burn permits on October 1st.
Fire Marshal Monte Bryan said permits are issued for 7 days and cost $75. Residential yard waste is the only material that may be burned. Prohibited items include standing berry vines, paper, wood, plastics, tires, standing grass, weeds, construction material and material from lot clearing. Bryan said burning cannot be done on vacant lots or on someone else’s property. Fires must be monitored by a competent adult and extinguished before it gets dark. Tools to control or extinguish the fire must be on-site whenever there is material burning.
Bryan said burn barrels are never allowed inside the City limits, and anyone burning without a permit may be subject to a fine and/or legal action. Due diligence must be exercised while burning, even with a permit, as fire can get out of control. The person responsible for the fire may be subject to fines, legal action or restitution.
Bryan suggests residents consider utilizing alternatives to burning, like composting, chipping, mulching, or transporting the debris to the Douglas County Landfill. More information on options can be found at http://www.recyclepower.org/wood.asp.
To request a burn permit in the City of Roseburg, call 492-6770 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A burn permit request form is also at www.cityofroseburg.org.
