Dan Loomis is seeking the office of County Clerk in the May 2020 Primary Election.
Loomis ran for Douglas County commissioner last year, but eventually dropped out, endorsing Tom Kress who went on to win the race.
In a release to News Radio 1240 KQEN, Loomis said he has also applied to serve as the Interim County Clerk.  Patricia Hitt recently announced her retirement. She will leave office at the end of September and the Board of Commissioners plans to appoint an Interim County Clerk on October 2nd. That person will serve until the end of 2020.
Loomis is currently the Workforce Development Manager for the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership. His past experience includes work as an aircraft accident investigator, an industrial specialist and more according to his campaign filing.
He is currently the chair of the Douglas County Veterans Service Office Advisory Committee and serves on the Douglas County Parks Advisory Board.
Loomis said he has great admiration for Hitt. He called the office of County Clerk “the linchpin for county government”. He said the Clerk’s office is responsible for everything from vital documents management to agenda and meeting minutes management, to answering citizen inquiries and fulfilling county responsibilities for ballots, and accurate elections results.
He said taking on the role of County Clerk is a responsibility that “is larger than any one person, yet it must be administered by a single, detail oriented, well-organized individual who can fully commit to achieving the right balance between records preservation and transparency”.
Loomis is the first person to file for the County Clerk position.
