The Roseburg VA Health Care System is emphasizing the #BeThere campaign during Suicide Prevention Month, this month.
A release from the VA said community leaders, colleagues, and veteran’s families and friends are encouraged to help prevent suicide by showing support for those who may be going through a difficult time.
The release said more than 45,000 Americans, including more than 6,000 veterans, die of suicide each year.
Kurt Rossbach, Roseburg VA Suicide Prevention Coordinator, said they are working hard to end veteran suicide but know that only about a third of veterans come to the VA for health care. He said that is why they are encouraging everyone in the community to get involved with the issue.
Veterans who are in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, and those who know a veteran in crisis, can call the Veterans Crisis Line for confidential support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Call 1-800-273-8255.
