A fugitive who authorities said should be considered armed and dangerous, was captured Wednesday morning near the Dillard Store.
Dwes Hutson of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 8:30 a.m. the Lane County Sheriff’s Office advised DCSO that Franklin Lefever, age 51, might be staying in a gravel lot near the store.
Just before 9:00 a.m. deputies spotted the man’s pickup and his motor home in the 9400 block of Old Highway 99 South. Hutson said officers made contact and detained one female subject. Lefever was found in the motor home and initially refused to come out. He surrendered after about 20 minutes.
Lefever was taken into custody on warrants out of Douglas County charging him with failure to report as a sex offender and second-degree criminal trespass, as well as warrants of out Lane County. He was detained without bail in the Douglas County Jail.
Earlier reports said Lefever was a person of interest in multiple burglaries, vehicle break-ins and thefts in both counties.
DCSO was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Roseburg Police and Winston Police.
