September 11, 2019 3:35 a.m.
Douglas Education Service District is looking for 13 local K-12 teachers to become volunteer education advocates.
A release from the ESD said the group will help find and recognize supports for educators for the 13 school districts in its region.
Douglas ESD was awarded a $450,000 infrastructure grant from the Educator Advancement Council to support its role as a Regional Educator Network. The release said its part of the state of Oregon’s current efforts to further support educators across the state.
The funding will help support local K-12 teachers and community partners to serve on ESD’s REN Coordinating Body. The group will help address the needs of local educators and students, and seek and identify educator supports for the school districts in the Douglas ESD region.
Douglas ESD Assistant Superintendent Analicia Nicholson said it’s a great opportunity for educators to be engaged in decision-making processes that affect their schools. She said “no one knows better than our local teachers the challenges that need to be addressed in our districts”. She said they are searching for those who “are committed, want to become the voice of our student demographics and strongly believe in diversity, equity and inclusion practices”.
The release said the ESD is seeking teachers with all levels of experience and who teach various grade levels and subjects. Those selected will be asked for a commitment in the role for up to 2 years.
Those who are interested can apply by going to the Douglas ESD’s website: https://douglasesd.k12.or.us/ and look at the Regional Educator Network page. The deadline to apply is September 23rd.
