ROSEBURG MAN JAILED IN BURGLARY CASE

September 10, 2019 10:55 a.m.
A Roseburg man was jailed on a burglary case on Sunday.
Information from the Roseburg Police said two people were in the process of moving out of a residence in the 1000 block of Grandview Drive. The pair had not been back to collect more items for several days. At about 10:00 a.m. they arrived to find 20-year old Jacob Chaffee asleep in their downstairs basement. One of the residents went upstairs to retrieve a baseball bat, and when he returned the suspect had laid back down and fallen asleep. The couple waited outside for police to respond.
The report said when the officers responded they yelled commands to the basement, with no response. They tried to contact the suspect who was still asleep and yelled commands from the doorway but the man still did not move. Chafee was then contacted and arrested.
He was initially charged with first degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief and for third degree theft. He was detained without bail in the Douglas County Jail.
