K9 Grim from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office sniffed out a pair of burglary suspects on Saturday.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a residential property in the 300 block of Thurman Lane in Oakland shortly after 9:30 a.m. O’Dell said a witness observed a subject run from the property when he arrived at the home. Deputies began an investigation and determined that a burglary had occurred.
K9 Grim went to the scene to track the suspects. Grim led deputies to an abandoned structure in the 200 block of Prescott Avenue where he began to alert that the suspects were hiding nearby. O’Dell said deputies announced the presence of the K9 and told the suspects to surrender. 35-year old Christopher Helm and 42-year old Hondo Kuntz, both of Yoncalla, complied and were taken into custody without incident.
Helm was initially charged with first degree counts of burglary and criminal mischief, second degree trespass, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and for a probation violation. He was detained without bail.
Kuntz was held for first degree burglary, second degree trespass and for third degree criminal mischief. He was released from custody on Monday.
Sutherlin Police assisted deputies with the investigation.
