4 additional lightning caused fires have been found since the Friday evening update, bringing the total number up to 25, all related to the lightning storms on Thursday.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said the newest fires include:
*Glide Transfer Fire: 4 miles west of Glide. 1/100th of an acre.
*Stinger Gulch Fire: 2 miles northwest of Days Creek. 1/10th of an acre.
*Three Horn Fire: 11 miles south of Tiller. 1/100th of an acre.
*Johnny Hutch Fire: 8 miles northeast of Tiller. 1/10th of an acre.
Reed said DFPA crews and cooperators continue to monitor the lightning affected areas, using both aviation and ground patrols, in addition to DFPA’s fire detection cameras for any additional fires.
The largest lightning caused fire is the Big Tom Folley Fire, 5 miles northeast of Elkton. It is estimated to be 10 acres in size. Reed said crews remain engaged on the fire and are making great progress on the blaze. As of late Saturday morning, fire line had been constructed around 95 percent of the fire, and hose lays had been installed around half of the fire. Fallers are removing snags within the fire area that pose a safety concern for firefighters working on the incident. About 60 firefighters are assigned to the Big Tom Folley Fire.
