21 FIRES LOCATED SINCE THURSDAY THUNDERSTORMS

21 fires have been located on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association since the thunderstorms took place on Thursday.
Kyle Reed of DFPA said 10 additional fires were found since Friday morning’s update. The largest lightning related fire burning in the Douglas District is the Big Tom Folley Fire which is 5 miles northeast of Elkton. That fire was estimated to be at 7 acres as of Friday night. Its burning in heavy standing and storm damaged timber. 2 helicopters, 1 bull dozer, and 70 firefighters worked on the fire throughout the day on Friday. Crews are working to complete fire lines around the blaze. Reed said all other lightning related fires remain less than an acre in size with the majority of the fires burning less than 1/10th of an acre.

Fires that have already been contained include:
*3rd Street Fire: 1/2 mile north of Glendale. Single lightning struck tree.
*Rice Creek Fire: 6 miles south of Winston. 1/100th of an acre.
*Olalla Road Fire: 10 miles southwest of Winston. 1/10th of an acre.
*Twin Cedar Fire: 16 miles northeast of Glide. 1/100th of an acre.
*Sparks Road Fire: 5 miles southwest of Rice Hill.1/4 of an acre.
*Elkhead Road Fire: 5 miles east of Rice Hill. 1/100th of an acre.
*Kent Creek Fire: 7 miles southwest of Winston.1/2 acre.
Fires that have crews actively engaged as of Friday night:
*Gallagher Ridge Fire: 7 miles southwest of Rice Hill. 1/10th of an acre.
*Bonanza Mine Fire: 6 miles east of Oakland. 1/10th of an acre.
*Hill Creek Fire: 7 miles east of Glide. 1/10th of an acre.
In addition to the lightning related fires, the DFPA and Sutherlin Fire Department responded to a grass fire Friday afternoon, 1 mile north of Sutherlin near the 1,000 block of North Comstock Road. That fire burned 1/10th of an acre of grass and threatened 1 home. An investigation indicated the Comstock Fire was the result of an illegal debris burn.  The responsible party was issued a citation for burning without a permit and may be billed for the fire suppression cost.
