Applications for the position of Interim Douglas County Clerk are still being accepted.
The Board of Commissioners is looking to fill the vacancy being created by the retirement of Clerk Patricia Hitt on September 30th. That is 15 months before her term was set to expire.
The interim appointment will serve until the end of December 2020. Applications are available online at www.co.douglas.or.us or in-person in the Commissioner’s office. They must be submitted and received no later than September 20th.
Applications will be evaluated over a 5-day period. There will be a public meeting on Wednesday September 25th in conjunction with the Board’s weekly business meeting where applicants can discuss their application and public comment will be taken. A release from the Board said it is anticipated that an Interim County Clerk will be appointed on October 2nd.
An official county clerk will be elected by the voters of Douglas County in the November 2020 election. Anyone interested in running for the position must file by the deadline for the May Primary Election. The first day to file is September 12th with the last day being March 10th of next year. The filing fee is $50 or residents can run by petition. The successful elected candidate will take office in January of 2021.
