Travelers this Labor Day weekend can expect delays on Interstate Five south of Ashland.
An update from the Oregon Department of Transportation said road construction means the freeway is narrowed to a single lane in each direction for 2 miles, between 9 and 11 miles north of the California border. The work is part of a 3-year project between the border and Ashland. During peak travel times, delays through the corridor have been more than 20 minutes. That is expected to increase by 25 percent, according to ODOT traffic analysts.
To help drivers identify real time delay times, ODOT is using Bluetooth technology to show travel times through the work zone. Go to www.tripcheck.com and look for the watch icon at either end of the work zone.
Southbound motorists should be aware that Caltrans is also working on several freeway projects between Redding and Weed, according to an ODOT release.
