Two products produced by a Douglas County based company have been named the best in North America.
A release from Umpqua Dairy said the company’s Regular Cottage Cheese and Butter Toffee Crunch ice cream were selected by an independent panel of judges and awarded first place as the “Best of the Best” in North America, at the World Dairy Expo.
The release said the World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest is one of the largest competitions in the world and the only one in North America that evaluates and ranks all categories of dairy products.
Doug Feldkamp, President of Umpqua Dairy, said he is “always proud of the dedication and effort our production team displays in making the finest dairy products”. He said the award is shared by all of the company’s employees and by the Oregon dairy partners that supply them with 100% of the milk used in the award-winning products.
Brad Legreid, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association, said the contest received a record number of 1,536 entries from dairy processors throughout North America.
Judging was held at MATC Culinary Arts School in Madison, Wisconsin. The release said all product samples were judged by awarding points on a 100-point scale for flavor, body, texture, appearance, color, and packaging and by deducting points for various defects.
Feldkamp said their customers know that they’re “enjoying the best cottage cheese and ice cream in North America”.
Umpqua Dairy will receive their first-place trophies at an event in Madison, Wisconsin on October 1st.
