The 27th annual Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby has announced the projects the event is helping to fund for fishery enhancement, restoration and education in the Umpqua River basin.
The 2019 Derby raised more than $100,000 to invest in the Umpqua. The Derby has contributed more than $1.64 million in matching funds towards hundreds of fishery projects over the past 27 years.
Grants include a Hatch House upgrade for the Rock Creek Hatchery of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, a life-jacket giveaway for Oregon State Police, an Acclimation Site Drain Improvement project at Eastwood Elementary School and much more.
The release from the organization said due to the support of the event, future generations will enjoy an ongoing healthy fishery in the Umpqua Basin.
