Douglas County government has received a national award for excellence.
It’s called the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and comes from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The award was given for the annual financial report for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2018.
According to the GFOA, the certificate is “the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management”.
The award was given to Jessica Hansen, Douglas County Chief Financial Officer and the Douglas County Management and Finance Department., who are responsible for preparing the CAFR. The award was presented to Hansen at last week’s business meeting of the Board.  This year marks the 31st year that the department has received the honor.
Commissioner Tim Freeman congratulated Hansen and her team “for their continued commitment to excellence”. He said the Board is thankful for “the excellent work they do day in and day out to achieve this high level of recognition”.
