The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for most of Douglas County and surrounding areas for between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Forecasters said a disturbance will move up from the south on Wednesday morning. That system is expected to tap into some moisture from what is currently tropical depression Ivo. The combination of increasing moisture, and instability could trigger lightning on dry fuels starting Wednesday morning and continuing into the evening. There is a chance that thunderstorms could produce little or no rainfall. It will follow 2 days of hot temperatures with triple digit readings at some interior west side valleys on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecasters said abundant lightning on dry fuels could produce numerous new starts that pose a threat to life and property and may overwhelm initial attack capabilities.
Along with all but the northwest part of Douglas County, the watch will be in place for all of Josephine and Jackson counties, and parts of Klamath and Lake counties.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Stay with News Radio 1240 KQEN and check www.541radio.com for updates and possible Red Flag Warnings.
