Officials with Roseburg Forest Products say the company has reached a settlement with the City of Weed, Calif., regarding water rights that had been previously contested.
It was settled that the Roseburg company owns the exclusive right to divert and use water from Beaughan Springs, according to a statement from RFP on Monday.
As part of the settlement, the City of Weed acknowledged that it has no ownership interest in that water and agreed to end all claims to the water rights.
A judge entered a stipulated judgment on August 9th, in Siskiyou County Superior Court, approving the settlement terms.
Roseburg Senior Vice President and General Council Stuart Gray says the litigation was never about monetary compensation, but rather to have the court uphold what he called RFP’s “clearly established ownership rights.”
RFP acquired the water rights in 1983 with the acquisition of the Weed veneer plant and adjacent land.
