CITY MAKING SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS TO TRAFFIC SIGNALS ON STEWART PARKWAY

August 12, 2019 2:30 p.m.
Staff with the City of Roseburg will be making safety improvements to traffic signals along Stewart Parkway in the coming days.
The five light “doghouse” style left turn signal heads will be removed and replaced with three head signals.
The three head signals will operate similarly to the four head flashing yellow signals elsewhere around the city.
The new three head signal will communicate with a red arrow meaning stop, a steady yellow arrow meaning prepare to stop, a flashing yellow arrow allowing drivers to make a left turn only if it is safe to do so while yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians, and a green arrow meaning the driver has a protected left turn.
According to a schedule provided by the city, flaggers will be controlling the following intersections to allow for the improvements to take place:
Today at the Stewart Parkway/Walmart intersection.
Tomorrow at the Stewart Parkway/Renann Avenue intersection.
Wednesday, August 14th at the Stewart Parkway/Mercy Drive intersection.
Thursday, August 15th at the Stewart Parkway/Aviation Drive intersection.
Monday, August 19th at the Stewart Parkway/Airport Road intersection.
Tuesday, August 20th more work at the Stewart Parkway/Renann Avenue Intersection.
As part of the safety project, a new mid-block pedestrian crossing on NE Stephens Street between Roseland Avenue and Emerald Drive has been constructed. The crossing includes Rapid Flashing Beacons that are activated by a pedestrian before crossing and then flash to let drivers know there is a person attempting to cross. The Rapid Flashing Beacons will be operational starting Monday, August 19th.
Improvement work will be taking place between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
