RED FLAG WARNING UPDATED

August 9, 2019 10:40 a.m.
The National Weather Service has updated the Red Flag Warning which is in effect through 5:00 p.m. Saturday for most all of southern Oregon.
An Urgent Fire Weather Message said a strong system for this time of year is moving up from the south on Friday and could bring frequent lightning on dry fuels into the evening. Thunderstorms are expected to produce little or no rainfall to start, then the chance for wetting rain is expected to increase into the evening. The risk of thunderstorms will continue through Saturday evening, though these should produce significant rainfall.
Forecasters said lightning and high fire danger will likely result in new fire starts. Gusty thunderstorms winds could contribute to fire spread. Despite rainfall, initial attack resources could be overwhelmed and holdover fires are possible.
Gusty south to southwest winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 25 miles per hour are forecast, but gusty and erratic winds are possible in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.
