FOREST ROAD TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE DURING ROAD RECONSTRUCTION

August 9, 2019 3:25 a.m.
The Cottage Grove Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest is temporarily closing Forest Service Road 23 for public safety during road reconstruction activities.
Emily Veale of the Forest Service said the road will be closed to all traffic until work has been completed. Crews will be adding aggregate road surfacing and replacing a large steam crossing culvert as part of the Puddin Timber Sale.
FSR 23 will be closed from the junction of BLM road 23-1-13 to road 2300-767. Signs will be posted at these locations alerting the public of the closure. Reconstruction work is underway and will last for approximately 10 days. Motorists are cautioned to be aware of dump trucks hauling rock from Shane Saddle Quarry to FSR 23.
Veale said the short-term closure will provide for long-term resource benefits and improve access and safety for areas residents and for visitors to the forest.
