43RD CRATER LAKE RIM RUN IS SATURDAY

August 9, 2019 3:20 a.m.
The 43rd annual Crater Lake Rim Run is Saturday.
A release from Brady Walters of the National Parks Service said the run is not a park sponsored event, but its presence leads to a number of changes at the park.
The run includes a 6.7 mile run and walk, a 13.1 mile run and a 26.2 mile run around the rim of the park.
During the event, Rim Drive will be open only to clockwise travel on the inside lane from Watchman Overlook to Sun Notch from 7:00 a.m. to approximately 1:00 p.m. Pinnacles Road will also be closed in both directions during this time. Speed limits are decreased to 25 miles per hour while runners are on the road. As racers complete sections of the course, the road will open to traffic in both directions through the day.
Lost Creek Campground will close on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and will re-open at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Watchman Overlook, Mount Scott Trailhead and Whitebark Pine Picnic Area and access to their associated trails, will be closed to the public on Friday evening. They will reopen as the event moves past these locations. The parking lot at Cleetwood Cove will have limited parking available for ticketed boat tours passengers on Saturday morning. All other hikers must park in nearby pullouts.
Shuttles for the race are operating from Mazama Village and Rim Village. Parking may be limited for visitors in these locations throughout the day.
