Oregon State Police tracked down the driver who allegedly caused a two-vehicle wreck Monday night, but didn’t get it stopped until the vehicle was in the Ashland area.
A report from Oregon State Police said at about 6:30 p.m. the driver of a passenger car said he was passing a semi-truck while going southbound on Interstate Five in the Winchester area. The motorist said the semi changed lanes while he was passing it, and hit the front side of his vehicle, forcing him into the concrete barrier, which caused damage to the left front corner of his vehicle.
The report said a witness driving in front of the semi stated he was able to see the car being forced into the concrete median and knew the vehicle had crashed. The witness said he followed the semi-truck and flagged it to the side of the freeway about a mile from where the incident took place. The witness took a photograph of the semis license place and told the driver that he had caused a crash. The witness said the commercial motor vehicle driver only mumbled to him as he got back into his truck and continued south.
The report said the witness came back to the scene of the crash and provided the OSP trooper with a description of the truck and the photo of the vehicle’s license plate. The trooper contacted the company that owned the commercial vehicle and coordinated the CMV stopping in Ashland and contacting a Central Point trooper to follow up in regards to the accident.
