PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE

August 5, 2019 10:00 a.m.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 138E near Hatfield Drive, east of Roseburg on Sunday night.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a report of the accident came in just before 9:40 p.m. Just prior to that, dispatchers had been receiving calls that a man was walking on the highway in that area, according to O’Dell.
A sedan operated by a 19-year old Roseburg man was traveling east on the highway when it hit the pedestrian. The report said the pedestrian was in the vehicle’s lane of travel and the man was wearing dark clothing. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
O’Dell said the driver is cooperating with deputies and assisting them with the investigation.
Crash Reconstructionists are seeking anyone who may have been a witness prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
