A release from the Douglas County Public Works Department is asking drivers to use extreme caution when traveling through the chip seal road improvement zones.
The release said when reduced speed signs and loose gravel are present, those roads are still part of an active construction zone. The use of excessive speed in those areas can cause accidents, flying rock and dusty conditions resulting in reduced visibility for motorists, according to the release.
Public Works offered a number of tips for safe driving in construction zones:
*Slow down when approaching a work zone.
*Follow posted speed limits, even if there are no workers present.
*Obey flaggers and workers instructions.
Drivers should also plan their route so they know where construction is taking place, and try to seek alternative ways to get to their destination. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time.
