Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Oakland Fire Department responded to a natural cover fire Friday evening about 3 miles northeast of Oakland, near the 2,000 block of Old Pioneer Road.
Kyle Reed of DFPA said crews arrived on the scene at about 11:10 p.m. and found 2 small fires burning alongside the road that quickly merged together. Reed said firefighters stopped the Old Pioneer Road Fire at a half acre of grass and brush and remained on the scene until about 3:00 a.m. Saturday, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.
The cause of the Old Pioneer Road Fire is under investigation.
