The City of Myrtle Creek is one of 9 locations around the state to receive an electric vehicle charging grant from Pacific Power.
A release from the utility said the cities will receive up to 100 percent of eligible costs for the charging stations. The release said the program is designed to assist non-profits, local governments, and businesses with providing employees, customers and the general public with more options to charge electric vehicles. Launched in late 2018, the program has awarded over $700,000 to 25 recipients in Oregon.
Cory Scott, director of customer solutions at Pacific Power, said “charging stations are a key piece of infrastructure that is becoming increasingly in-demand as more people switch to electric-based vehicles”. He said it is one of the ways the utility is helping make the transition to electric-powered vehicles easier with more charging-options for commuters.
Myrtle Creek City Recorder Joshua Norton said the City is very excited to receive the grant. Norton said a dual port station will be installed at Creekside Memorial Park. Norton said a letter from Pacific Power indicates that Myrtle Creek will get up to nearly $15,500 to help pay for putting the new station in.
In southern Oregon, grants will help pay for charging stations in Grants Pass, Medford and Ashland.
