The Milepost 97 Fire south of Canyonville is now 25% contained.
The latest report from the Oregon Department of Forestry said firefighters are having success establishing control lines around the fire. Mop up operations where hot spots are cooled from the perimeter towards the interior of the fire are beginning in many areas.
Crews have been focusing much of the suppression efforts on the south portion of the fire near Interstate Five to prevent it from spreading further towards nearby communities.
At last report nearly 1,360 personnel are working on the fire. That includes firefighters and support staff. On Tuesday there were 51 hand crews, 41 engines, 47 dozers, and 22 water tenders. 13 helicopters were being used along with 2 single engine air tankers.
