The Mile Post 97 Fire burning 1 mile south of Canyonville was estimated to be at 35-40 acres as of Thursday afternoon.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said fire activity is picking up as the temperature increases. 5 Helicopters are working on the fire. Air tankers have been ordered to assist as well, including a larger tanker that is based in Medford.

As of mid-afternoon, the fire is still burning up the hill and is not moving towards Canyonville. The southern flank of the fire has been more active.

Reed said around 110 firefighters are working on the Mile Post 97 Fire as of mid-afternoon.
Reed said people driving through the area on Interstate Five need to slow down and watch for firefighters and equipment that is close to the freeway. Drivers are asked not to take pictures or video while driving. Reed said motorists should not stop along the freeway.
