FISH FOOD PANTRY HOLDING SUMMER FOOD DRIVE

July 25, 2019 10:30 a.m.
FISH Food Pantry will be holding a summer community food drive this Saturday at four local grocery stores.
Volunteers will be collecting donated food at Sherm’s Thunderbird, Fred Meyer, Safeway and Albertsons from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In addition, Grocery Outlet’s month long “Independence from Hunger” food drive will continue through the end of July. That store is collecting for FISH and for the Dillard Winston Food Pantry.
A release from FISH said a variety of donated food items are needed to enhance the options of those using the pantry. That includes baby food, boxed cereal, canned vegetables, and canned tuna and meat. Donations of canned fruit, flour and baking mix, peanut butter, condiments and toiletries are also needed. Cash donations for Fish will be accepted as well.
Requests for emergency food assistance from low-income families in Douglas County remain high. The FISH Food Pantry provides emergency food parcels to over 900 households per month. That includes around 3,200 people, with 30% being children. The typical household seeking emergency food assistance will visit the FISH Food Pantry 3 or 4 times during the year.
