The Roseburg City Council got an update on the status of building an allied and mental health college at its Monday night meeting.
Ryan Tribbett and Phillip Scheuers of PacWest Communications talked about the process that led the Oregon State Legislature to award $10 million towards what is now being called the Southern Oregon Medical Workforce Development Center. Oregonians for Rural Health along with a number of partners are seeking to build the facility in Roseburg, which is estimated to cost around $30 million.
Scheuers said the project is now in a new phase and said State Senator Dallas Heard will be convening local stakeholders as work continues to move the plan forward and seek the balance of the money needed to make the idea a reality. City Manager Pro Tem Nikki Messenger said the governor’s branch of the Oregon Solutions Process will be assisting with the work.
A number of councilors expressed enthusiasm for seeing progress on the proposal.
