CITY MANAGER HIRING PROCESS UPDATE MONDAY NIGHT

July 22, 2019 4:05 a.m.
The Roseburg City Council will get an update on the process to hire a new city manager at its Monday night meeting.
Roseburg has been without a permanent manager since Lance Colley retired at the end of April. Public Works Director Nikki Messenger has been city manager pro-tem since the start of May.  The final candidate to be the manager, Paul Eckert, withdrew his name from consideration May 1st. Mayor Larry Rich asked the council to wait a couple of months before coming back to the issue. Last Wednesday the council had an Executive Session regarding the opening but that meeting was not open to the public and what was discussed cannot be reported on.  News Radio 1240 KQEN was at the meeting.
The council will hear a presentation regarding what is now being called the Southern Oregon Medical Workforce Development Center. The Oregon State Legislature recently approved $10 million in state bonding to help fund the construction of the center. Oregonians for Rural Health and its coalition partners are working with George Fox University, the academic partner, on the project.
A number of other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
