Roseburg has been without a permanent city manager for over two and a half months and the Roseburg City Council will discuss what to do next during an Executive Session on Wednesday night.
May 1st, the day after Lance Colley retired as city manager, the man who had been named the final candidate for the position, Paul Eckert, withdrew his name from consideration. Public Works Director Nikki Messenger had already been named city manager pro-tem and has kept that role ever since.
Mayor Larry Rich asked that the council wait a couple of months before deciding what the next step should be in the process. At the time, Rich said this would give Messenger an opportunity to see if she might want to apply for the position on a permanent basis.
The agenda said the Executive Session is only to discuss the city manager hiring process. No decision can be made at the meeting because it is not open to the public. Councilors will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
