A fire destroyed a barn near Rice Hill on Sunday night.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said at about 6:00 p.m. crews from the agency along with North Douglas County Fire and EMS and the Oakland Rural Fire Department responded to the fire located off of Deer Hollow Lane. Reed said that when they arrived the fire was already spreading to the surrounding vegetation. Structural firefighters from North Douglas and Oakland worked to contain the barn fire while crews from DFPA suppressed the wildland fire.
In addition to the barn, the Deer Hollow Fire damaged an adjacent outbuilding, threatened a home and burned about 1/10th of an acre of vegetation. Information from North Douglas County Fire said the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction. The fire is still being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.
