Fire crews responded to a semi-truck fire along Interstate 5 southbound on Thursday morning.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue Division Chief and Fire Marshall Josh Waechter said the fire was reported at 10:25 a.m. Waechter said a semi with a trailer had pulled over at the Winston exit at milepost 119 when the engine compartment caught fire. The fire eventually extended into the cab and the trailer of the commercial motor vehicle. The trailer was full of industrial-sized rolls of paper.
CDF&R responded with two engines, two command vehicles and one water tender. Lookingglass Rural Fire District assisted with one command vehicle and one water tender. Waechter said the fire was under control just before 11:00 a.m.
Troopers with Oregon State Police and staff with the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
Waechter said the cause of the fire is under investigation. The last fire unit left the scene just before 12:00 p.m. No one was injured in the fire.
