September 16, 2024 9:20 a.m.

The Milepost 98 Fire is 100 percent contained as of early Monday.

An update from the Northwest Incident Management Team 13 said command of the fire was turned over to the Douglas Forest Protective Association crews at 6:00 a.m. Through the duration of the incident, air operations dropped 230,000 gallons of water and 28,000 gallons of retardant during 60 hours of flight time.

The Devil’s Knob Fire is 4,142 acres and is 40 percent contained. Containment is increasing as the fire shows limited activity. Crews have transitioned almost entirely to mop up, patrol and suppression repair. Hoses are being pulled from much of the perimeter, with excavators being employed and chipping work underway. On the southern portion in Flat Creek drainage, tethering operations continue in order to complete contingency line work.

Cooler temperatures, periods of precipitation and high relative humidity are expected to remain in the coming days, which will keep fire activity to a minimum.
