POLICE CHASE STARTS IN ROSEBURG, ENDS NEAR EUGENE

April 16, 2024 9:40 a.m.

A police chase which started in Roseburg, ultimately ended near Eugene on Monday night.

A Roseburg Police report said at 9:30 p.m. an officer attempted to stop a sedan which was westbound on Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard near Northeast Airport Road, for failing to signal.

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Kaitin Cobb of Roseburg, allegedly accelerated to almost 70 miles per hour and continued onto northbound Interstate 5, accelerating as she went. The pursuit was terminated due to vehicular congestion and because the officer was not going to catch up.

Cobb continued north on the freeway, passing two Sutherlin Police Department officers at approximately 120 miles per hour. Sutherlin officers pursued the vehicle to the Lane County border before they had to terminate due to traffic and a vehicle partially stalled in a northbound lane of the freeway north of their location.

A Cottage Grove Police officer was waiting at the southernmost Cottage Grove exit to deploy spike strips but determined that Cobb was driving too fast and recklessly near other vehicles to safely manage the attempt.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the sedan on the freeway between Cottage Grove and Eugene, still reportedly going 100 miles per hour and pursued it. Cobb attempted to exit the freeway at the Highway 58 exit and crashed.,

Cobb was transported to Peace Health Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, due to a broken nose. She was then taken to the Lane County Jail and charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle and for reckless driving. Cobb was detained without bail.
