<p>Umpqua Community College will conduct a simulated Mass Casualty Incident response training exercise on Monday, June 1st, in collaboration with students and regional emergency response partners.</p>
<p>A UCC release said the training exercise will take place during the morning hours and will conclude by 12:00 p.m. The event is designed to be a hands-on educational experience for students preparing for careers in emergency response, health care and public safety.</p>
<p>Participating UCC programs include fire science, emergency medical services, nursing, criminal justice, allied health and theater Students from the truck driving school and police reserve academy will also participate in the exercise.</p>
<p>Community partners supporting the training include Roseburg Towing, Central Douglas Fire &amp; Rescue, Roseburg Fire Department, Sutherlin Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, North Douglas County Fire and EMS, Glide Rural Fire Protection District, REACH Air Medical Services, and Douglas County Emergency Management.</p>
<p>College officials emphasize that the event is only a simulation.</p>
<p>The release said organizers said the exercise will allow students to apply classroom knowledge in a realistic emergency-response setting while working alongside experienced professionals from across the region. The training is designed to help students build confidence and develop the skills needed to respond effectively during real emergencies.</p>
<p>The public may notice emergency vehicles and training activity on or near the campus during the exercise period.</p>

<p>The Douglas Forest Protective Association has announced that the 2026 fire season will officially begin this Saturday, May 30th.</p>
<p>A DFPA release said all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs land within the Douglas District are included in the fire season declaration. On private, county, state and BIA lands, certain fire restrictions are imposed to help prevent wildfires.</p>
<p>In addition to the declaration of fire season, the DFPA will implement Public Use Restrictions on Saturday on those same lands. The public use restriction level will be set to LOW, and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will begin at IFPL1 in most regulated use areas and all forestland within one-eighth of a mile thereof.</p>
<p>Public use restrictions will be assessed and announced later for the Umpqua National Forest and the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management.</p>

<p>Roseburg Police cited a man for a city ordinance violation on Thursday.</p>
<p>An RPD report said at 4:30 p.m. the 42-year-old was contacted at a camp at the bike jumps in Gaddis Park in the 800 block of Northwest Highland Street. His camp was unlawful and he was contacted during the unlawful camp posting process. The man was in possession of a bow, arrow, and a small saw. All three items are prohibited in city parks.</p>
<p>The man was cited for having prohibited weapons and tools on city property. The items were seized as evidence and the man was released.</p>

<p>Roseburg Police jailed a man for a warrant on Thursday evening.</p>
<p>An RPD report said just before 8:00 p.m. officers observed the 59-year-old in a parking lot near the intersection of Northwest Dogwood Street and Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard. While in the area, officers learned the man’s license in Oregon was revoked and he had a valid warrant for his arrest. Officers observed the man’s vehicle back out of the parking lot, onto the roadway, and then pull back into the parking lot.</p>
<p>Officers contacted the man and detained him. Dispatch confirmed the warrant and his driving status. Bail was set at $6,250. The man was also cited for driving uninsured and failure of a previous violator to file.</p>
