The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians celebrated a milestone in community healthcare on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Cow Creek Health & Wellness Pharmacy in Roseburg.
A Tribal release said the event highlighted a landmark step in the Tribe’s commitment to improving access to health care for both Tribal citizens and Douglas County residents.
The ribbon cutting was attended by the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribal Board of Directors, County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress and Chris Boice, as well as staff and healthcare providers who welcomed guests and gave tours of the new facility.
Cow Creek Tribal Chair Carla Keene said, “People in this community have had to drive farther and wait longer for the medicine they need. It is a healthcare crisis, and it has hit many of our families hard”. Chair Keene said, “That’s one of the reasons that this pharmacy and our clinics are open to everyone. Cow Creek Health and Wellness is not just for our Tribal members, but for all our neighbors”. Chair Keene said, “We open our doors because that is who the Cow Creek Umpqua have always been. We don’t build walls, we build clinics, we build pharmacies, and we open our doors to everyone in the community”.
The release said the Cow Creek Health and Wellness Pharmacy is a full-service, patient-centered pharmacy open to all members of the public who establish care with Cow Creek Health and Wellness Clinics. Full pharmacy services will be available to all patients as final operational preparations are completed in the coming days and weeks.
The pharmacy is located on Northwest Edenbower Boulevard in Roseburg, sharing a building with the Cow Creek Health and Wellness Clinic.
