A Camas Valley man was jailed after allegedly lighting a victim on fire Monday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just before 5:00 p.m. 27-year old Johnathan Carter allegedly dumped gasoline on the victim and then lit him on fire, in the 1000 block of Upper Camas Road in Camas Valley. It was determined that the victim had over thirty percent of his body burned. He was later life-flighted to an undisclosed hospital.
The victim stated that Carter had dumped gasoline on his back while he was working outside and told him he was lighting him on fire as he did so. The man said he dropped to the ground to try and put the fire out while Carter allegedly picked up a metal rod and proceeded to strike the victim with it repeatedly.
Carter would only tell a deputy that he was “angry” and would not elaborate further. He was charged with first-degree counts of assault and arson. He was detained without bail.
