Volunteers are needed to help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife raise hatchery winter steelhead at Barrett Creek near Winston.
A release from ODFW said the project is an opportunity to work directly with fish and help produce winter steelhead for anglers.
Evan Leonetti, ODFW Salmon Trout Enhancement Program biologist said the agency has had some issues in the past meeting their production goals of hatchery winter steelhead for the South Umpqua River. He said they have designed this rearing project to “hold the fish in a cold-water area that will help increase their survival and directly benefit anglers”.
The release said those interested are asked to volunteer for at least 3 consecutive days. The project began in late May and runs through September.
Anyone over age 18 that is interested can call Leonetti at 464-2175.
