On Tuesday all areas within the Umpqua National Forest entered Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1.
Terri Brown of the Forest Service said Precaution Level 1 declares that fire season requirements for work in the forest are in effect. In addition to the other prevention measures, a 1-hour fire watch is required at this and higher levels unless otherwise waived.
Brown said while the IFPL doesn’t apply to recreation users, visitors are encouraged to be cautious with fire while out in the woods. Forest officials remind recreational visitors that the use of fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited. People need to make sure that campfires are fully extinguished and cool to the touch.
