A North Bend man died on Wednesday, after being hit by the log truck he had been driving.
Lieutenant Steve Mitchell of Oregon State Police said at about 11:10 a.m. troopers and first responders were dispatched following a report that a log truck had gone into a ditch on Highway 38 just outside of Elkton.
Mitchell said a preliminary investigation revealed that a loaded log truck operated by 63-year old John Dickens of North Bend had been eastbound on the highway. The man stopped at a wide spot along the road and exited the log truck. Mitchell said the vehicle starting rolling and struck Dickens while he was outside of it, causing fatal injuries.
Mitchell said Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into what caused the vehicle to roll while it was unattended. Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
OSP was assisted by several other agencies at the scene.
Mitchell said the log truck is owned by Koos Transportation LLC.
