The Douglas County Historical Society will have its Christmas Open House this Sunday at the Floed Lane House, at 544 Southeast Douglas in Roseburg.
The Society was formed in 1953 to protect and preserve the historical records, artifacts and buildings in Douglas County. In 1960 the house built by General Joseph Lane’s daughter and her husband, was deeded to the Douglas County Historical Society by the General’s great granddaughter Katherine Waite and her husband.
The society has attempted to maintain the house with community donations and occasional grants. In the past few years, the porch has been rebuilt, and rotting posts supporting the second floor were repaired. The house was repainted this year. Future plans include redoing the backyard landscaping and updating the annex to look the way it would have in the 1800s.
The holiday event will include refreshments and entertainment and will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
