The United Community Action Network is one of ten groups in Oregon selected to be part of Operation Welcome Home.
Oregon Housing and Community Services will work in partnership with the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs to support communities by providing technical assistance in initiatives to end homelessness among veterans.
A release from Oregon Housing and Community Services said the Operation Welcome Home centers the goal of ending veterans’ homelessness, and uses best practices and clear goalposts to advance that goal. The release said the ten communities and organizations selected demonstrate a desire and ability to address the issue.
Operation Welcome Home will run through May of 2019. The initiative is supported by lottery funds allocated by the 2017 Oregon State Legislature, and represents the first stage in supporting local communities as they work to end veteran homelessness. OCHS and ODVA will help communities with the support needed to house 500 veterans across the state.
UCAN will work on the issue in both Douglas and Josephine counties. A variety of agencies and organizations will be part of Operation Welcome Home in other counties.
