Due to a pipeline rupture in British Columbia, Canada, customers of Avista in southern Oregon are being asked to conserve natural gas.
An update from the utility said the rupture is affecting Avista’s ability to supply natural gas to the homes and businesses of its customers. The update said the incident affects all of the natural gas customers in both western Oregon and western Washington. Utilities throughout the region are working collaboratively to reduce usage on the natural gas system, according to the release.
Customers are asked to set their thermostat at a lower setting and limit the use of hot water until further notice.
A section of pipeline in British Columbia experienced an explosion at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night according to news reports.
