A city ordinance allowing transportation network companies such as Uber and Lyft to operate, while letting traditional taxi services continue as well, is about to go into effect in the City of Roseburg.
City Recorder Amy Sowa said the ordinance was drafted based on Council direction, researching ordinances from other cities that allow this type of service, and after input from local taxi companies, TNCs and others interested in the issue.
A release from the City of Roseburg said in order for a driver for Uber, Lyft or any other TNC to legally provide vehicle for hire services, the Transportation Network Company must first apply and be approved for a City of Roseburg Vehicle for Hire Operator License. Once that TNC is approved, each individual driver must sign up with the TNC for whom they will drive, and then apply and be approved for a separate City of Roseburg Vehicle for Hire Driver Permit.
Both the operator license and the driver permit applications are available at the City Recorders Office or by going to: http://www.cityofroseburg.org/doing-business/vehicle-hire/

The ordinance will be in place starting September 12th.
