Sixteen Umpqua Valley wines picked up awards at last week’s Oregon Wine Experience in Jacksonville.
The week-long event is called one of the biggest wine and culinary celebrations in Oregon. More than 100 wineries from around the state participated in this year’s event, including eleven from the Umpqua Valley American Viticultural area. Eight local wineries received awards:
2017 Albarino from Abacela Vineyards
2015 Carmenere and the 2015 Dolcetto from Spangler Vineyards
2015 Malbec and 2017 Grenache Rose from Abacela.

2015 Garnacha from Abacela
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2014 Syrah from Freed Estate Winery
2013 Southern Cross from Marshanne Landing Winery
2013 Cabernet Franc from Misty Oaks Vineyards
2016 Gruner Veltliner and the 2015 Tempranillo from Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards
2014 Cabernet Franc from Spangler Vineyards
2017 Reisling and the 2016 Viognier from Whitetail Ridge Vineyard
A panel of highly renowned judges evaluated the varietals the weekend of August 4th and 5th.
