Riverbend Live has announced the performers for its 2018 concert season.
The five Friday nights of free entertainment will run from July 6th through August 3rd at RIverbend Park in Winston.
This year’s lineup includes:
*Ruthie Foster on July 6th. Foster’s voice has drawn comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald. The Texas-based singer/songwriter is known for singing blues, gospel, jazz, folk and soul music. She has been nominated for three Grammy awards for Best Blues Album.
*Jenny Don’t and the Spurs on July 13th. The group has an original sound but plays stylistic homage to artists from the 1940s and 1950s when the lines between country and rock n roll were blurred.
*Riders in the Sky, with cowboy poet Andy Hedges on July 20th. Riders in the Sky is a Grammy award winning Western group considered to be the keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Their music was featured in Disney’s “Toy Story” movie. Andy Hedges is a songster, reciter and storyteller performing cowboy poetry and music.
*”Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” will be performed by the Riverbend Live Youth Theater July 27th and July 28th.
*Delta Rae on August 3rd. The six piece group from North Carolina plays folk, rock and country. They have performed on “Austin City Limits” and have received national attention with features in the Washington Post and the New York Times. They were also included in Forbes magazine’s “30 under 30 List”.
Riverbend Live concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Those attending are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair, but no pets. Food will be available but concert goers can also bring a picnic basket, along with wine or beer. No smoking is allowed in the venue.
