U.S. Senator Ron Wyden was presented with the “2016 Congressional Steel Champion Award” by the American Iron and Steel Institute on Wednesday.
A press release from the organization says that Wyden received the award in recognition of his long-standing support of the steel industry.
In response, Wyden said his “number one goal, when it comes to the cutthroat global economy, is to fight for American workers”. Wyden said one way to do that is by enforcing rules in the U.S. and by “stopping trade cheats before they hurt American workers and families”.
Conrad Walker, President and CEO of EVRAZ North America, which has facilities in Oregon said that he is grateful for Wyden’s leadership on steel issues and called him a “steel champion”.
